Nugget & The Glaciers

This post makes me think of the Ice Age movies. I keep feeling like I should see Manny slowly walking along and Sid and Deigo fighting somewhere in these pictures. Then the little squirrel thing, I don't know his name, will try to hide his little acorn somewhere in the glacier, which will of course cause some avalanche almost killing everything in its path.
HUBBARD GLACIER, ALASKA
Hubbard Glacier is located in eastern Alaska and spreads for 122km and goes 1,200ft deep. The glacier is quickly advancing toward the Gulf of Alaska which results in breaking off the large chunks of ice at its edges. There's something terrifying about imagining being on a cruise ship, being surrounded by empty seas, while being confronted with a mass of ice, rumbling as pieces crash into the freezing waters below...but not terrifying enough to take it off my to-travel list.
PERITO MORENO GLACIER, ARGENTINA
The Perito Moreno Glacier  is located  in the Southwestern Province of Santa Cruz, Argentina. This mass spans 121 square miles and unlike most glaciers, it is still advancing despite rising temperatures. The average height of the glacier is 240 feet above the water. I can't imagine witnessing this spectacular view of blue hues from one of those platforms.

The Glacier grows towards Lake Argentina and creates a dam wall, however, the constant flow from the lake melts the wall and creates a bridge. I've read that seeing the ice arch collapse is both scary and phenomenal but happens once every 3 - 4 years, so I'll really need to time my visit carefully.
UNESCO World Heritage Site - Los Glaciares National Park
JOSTEDALSBREEN, NORWAY
Jostedalsbreen is the largest glacier in Europe and situated in Sogn og Fjordane Country of Norway. The glacier is maintained by the high snowfall rates in the region and has approximately 50 glacier arms. It spreads for 80km with a thickness of 500m. Taking the shape of the valley, Jostedalbreen looks like the scene of a movie which has been paused and any second, it will violently rush into the lake  below. There's just something it about being snugged between those mountains that makes it so beautiful.
SVINAFELLSJOKULL, ICELAND
The massive ice cap of Vatnajokull has many arms, Svinafellsjokull being one of them. Svinafellsjokull is a favourite location for the filming of many movies, my favourite being Batman Begins. To stand where batman stood as he was trained by Ra's Al Ghul, is more than enough reason to want to visit Svinafellsjokull. The beautiful frozen landscape was also used for popular HBO series, Game of Thrones, which by the way season 7 will be premiering in July...
HELHEIM, GREENLAND
The Helheim Glacier is one the Greenland's, largest glaciers of the Southeast. The Glacier was named after the Underworld in Norse Mythology; a sea of ice, named after the underworld, the irony. This glacier in particular has been rapidly retreating since 2001 where the speed increased from 8 to 11 kilometers per year. This accelerating retreat contributes to the rising sea levels and growing amount of fresh waters in oceans worldwide which alters ecosystems. Nevertheless, I'll opt for a helicopter tour for this one.
These structures are so majestic that its actual existence is unbelievable, especially since being from the Caribbean, the most amount of ice I've ever seen lies in my freezer. I'm ignoring the fact that I may freeze to death, being a little nugget, when I visit these locations, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. I'm off to watch the Ice Age Movies now. Comment below and share some of your favourite glaciers!

P.S. The little squirrel thing's name is Scrat and he's  a saber-tooth squirrel, yes, I googled Ice Age.

The day I went, it was so foggy so all you could see is fog and this massive ice island facing you. and it kept making these noises and pieces of it just crashing into the water and if u fall into the water, you know u gonna go unconscious instantly with that temp

Nugget & The Natural Pools

There are so many amazing natural pools around the world, but these are just a few that caught my attention thus far.  Fairy Pools, Skye Fairy Pools is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Scotland and I can definitely see why. The blue pools are  crystal clear  and so beautiful.  As previously mentioned in  Nugget & The Mountains , I'm not built for hiking. Thankfully for me, to get to the beautiful pools through the River Brittle takes an average  40 - 50 minutes walk  which I can make. I'll just need some company; good company of course, not boring ones to make the trail feel like 5 hours.  The Pools is the most photographed place in Scotland and considered its most magical destination. The  pristine  and unbelievably blue waters makes every thing  visible . Now, the thing with the pools, they are  deceptively inviting.  The may have the colour and appeal of a tropical oasis, but the ...

Nugget & The Flower Fields

A post for the plant lovers, the landscape lovers, those who just love to appreciate the beauty of nature and most importantly, for the tea lovers. Here are some of the most unbelievably flower fields around the world. LAVENDER FIELDS, UK The British countryside is home to some of the most beautiful lavender fields , just look at those shades of lavender in the pictures below. These fields are maybe the most photogenic ones I've even seen and I'm ever in the UK, I'm definitely visiting and there's lots to choose from. The Lavender farm are usually in full bloom from June to August and my favourite thing bout them is, tourists like myself, are free to walk through and tour the facilities. There's even a nice gift shop that I need to go to because who doesn't love the scent of lavender? Nugget & The Hot Springs

Geothermal hot springs can be found all over the world, but these are some which hold most of the Travel Nugget's interest.  Although some are lethal, the colours are surreal.  THE BLUE LAGOON This shade of blue is so pretty, I can't believe that it's the natural colour of this hot spring. Yes, blue is my favourite colour. The Blue Lagoon is Iceland's most popular feature and I just want to jump into it. Its spectacular shade of blue water comes from a composition of silica, algae and minerals which reflects in the sunlight. The blue lagoon drink was actually named after here. However, the water itself is actually milky white. The lagoon contains 9 million litres of water, renewing itself every 40 hours from beneath the floor. The deepest area in the spring is 1.6 meters with a temperature of 37 to 40 degrees Celsius; both perfect for Travel Nugget bathing. GRAND PRISMATIC SPRING, USA I've seen pictures of this spring before, but I didn't reali...

Nugget & Unorthodox Places

I may not exactly want to visit all these places, but their  uniqueness and weirdness deserves them a right to be blogged about by the Travel Nugget. They're definitely places to go to if you're seeking an adventure. GRUNER SEE, AUSTRIA Gruner See or "Green Lake" is a lake found in the village of Styria, Austria. The name originated from the beautiful emerald green colour of the water. However, the pretty colour isn't the main reason why I'm interested in this spot. During the winter, the lake is merely 3 to 7 feet deep and people enjoy the surrounding county park facilities. However, as Spring approaches and the temperature rises, the snow melts away and the water is collected in this emerald basin transforming it into a beautiful version of a snapshot from the 1995 movie, Waterworld. The water level rises to a maximum depth of 39 feet which swallows the park and many scuba divers explore this water-world. Venturing under these waters, the theme song ...

Nugget & The Caves

I never thought that I'd be interested in going into caves. I think batman scarred me growing up and made me think caves are just dark holes, infested with bats but I was so wrong. Here are some of the most amazing caves around the world, each carrying unique features. ICE CAVE, KAMCHATKA Does the pictures of this ice cave below remind anyone else of cotton candy or the passage to a fairytale world ? Yes, I'm sure it does. This magical cave is located in  Kamchatsky, Russia  where the entire landscape is constantly changing due to active  volcanoes  and  glaciers . The location is described as being alive and having  a beating heart .  This  ice jewel  was carved by a volcano-fed river which is sourced from a hot spring from the  Mutnovsky volcano  which flows through the glacier. Its cotton candy  colours  are a result of the  refraction of sunlight t streaming through the ice walls. Photo credit:...
