Nugget & The Seawater Swimming Pools

What's your biggest fear about bathing at the beach? Mine is being swept away by the waves...actually no, that's not true, #1 fear is definitely being bitten or eaten by a shark; I've seen Jaws. But being swept away is definitely fear #2 which is why I love these pools. Seawater swimming pools are rock pools formed by the forces of nature or even man made and are usually located near coastlines.
GIOLA LAGOON, THASSOS
This beautiful swimming pool was carved into the rocks of Thassos by nature to form the most exquisite seaside swimming pool. The turquoise pool is found near Astris on the island of Thassos, Greece and is separated from the Aegean Sea by a strip of rock. Diving from the terraced shaped rocks is the only method to access the pool. Thee pool measures approximately 20 meters wide and the rocks are 8 meters from the water surface. According to legend, Giola was the eye of Zeus which he used to watch over.

NATURAL LAVA POOL, PORTO MONIZ
The village of Porto Moniz does not have just one lava pool, but a whole group of pools interconnected together. The natural pools mark the point where molten lava met the Atlantic ocean years ago and are constantly filled by natural seawater. This attraction is found within the Aqua Natura Madeira Hotel Resort, Madeira, Portugal. As the waves beat upon the walls, clean, natural ocean water constantly fills the rock formation making it the finest location to bathe and swim in on the island.

EL CALETON DE GARACHICO, TENERIFE
The Canary Islands contains numerous natural swimming pools, varying in size and all created without human intervention. North of Tenerife, adjacent to the 16th century San Miguel Castle, El Caleton de Garachico is the most famous natural pool in the Canaries. The ocean water becomes trapped in the natural pool providing clear, blue waters for swimming. The site also offers bathers the chance to see a beautiful view of the Northern coastline and La Culata Cliffs.

AZENHAS DO MAR, SINTRA
Azenhas do Mar is a tiny coastal town in Sintra, Portugal. The surrounding seas are usually quite violent, but a shallow rock pool allows bathers to enjoy the seawater and atmosphere while being protected the ferocious waves. The seawater pool was formed  from volcanic activities and is tucked perfectly at the base of the town.

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA
Unlike the previous pools, the seaside pool of Laguna Beach, California was built by a homeowner many years ago. Nevertheless, the attempt to mimic the natural wonder is still beautiful. As the tide rises, the enclosed area becomes filled with seawater directly from the Pacific Ocean. The circular concrete border provides bathers with some shield from the harsh waves and cocoons them from the drifting into the rough coasts.

Although seawater swimming pools protect you from the violence of the oceans, there have been instances of people being taken by the waves when seas were extremely rough. For this reason, people are usually warned not to indulge in bathing in them when sea conditions are terrible. On the right days, these places are the perfect bathing spots.     Good day Nuggets. these are some really nice spots, but you should look at Queen Joan’s Baths, in Sorrento, Italy and maybe add it to your blog :)

    I'm not too much into the whole diving bit but anyone of those would be ideal for me to just relax and enjoy the fresh sea breeze and the awesome view ...need to win a lotto travel nugget to get to all those amazing places...😀

Nugget & The Blue Holes

Looking for an underwater adventure? Blue holes are usually found in shallow coastal areas and the darker the shade of blue, the deeper it goes. The Travel Nugget won't venture into these depths for 2 reasons. Firstly, diving in these places has a prerequisite of logging over 25 dives so an extreme amateur, like the Travel Nugget, can't. Secondly, the mystery of the creatures that lurk in dark, deep waters scare me. GREAT BLUE HOLE, BELIZE The Great Blue Hole of Belize is the most popular blue hole and I have no idea what its appearance reminds me of. It measures over 300 meters across and 124 meters deep. The blue hole rests in the middle of Lighthouse Reef where an island of corals encircles the shallow area, giving it a beautiful turquoise colour. Many visit by boat and aerial tours while the more adventurous opt for skydiving into the waters. Nugget & Unorthodox Places

I may not exactly want to visit all these places, but their  uniqueness and weirdness deserves them a right to be blogged about by the Travel Nugget. They're definitely places to go to if you're seeking an adventure. GRUNER SEE, AUSTRIA Gruner See or "Green Lake" is a lake found in the village of Styria, Austria. The name originated from the beautiful emerald green colour of the water. However, the pretty colour isn't the main reason why I'm interested in this spot. During the winter, the lake is merely 3 to 7 feet deep and people enjoy the surrounding county park facilities. However, as Spring approaches and the temperature rises, the snow melts away and the water is collected in this emerald basin transforming it into a beautiful version of a snapshot from the 1995 movie, Waterworld. Nugget & The Caves

I never thought that I'd be interested in going into caves. I think batman scarred me growing up and made me think caves are just dark holes, infested with bats but I was so wrong. Here are some of the most amazing caves around the world, each carrying unique features. ICE CAVE, KAMCHATKA Does the pictures of this ice cave below remind anyone else of cotton candy or the passage to a fairytale world ? Yes, I'm sure it does. This magical cave is located in  Kamchatsky, Russia  where the entire landscape is constantly changing due to active  volcanoes  and  glaciers . The location is described as being alive and having  a beating heart .  This  ice jewel  was carved by a volcano-fed river which is sourced from a hot spring from the  Mutnovsky volcano  which flows through the glacier.
